Fripp Island, South Carolina

For a quieter, more secluded beach experience, Fripp Island is a hidden gem. This private, gated island offers pristine beaches, abundant wildlife, and a relaxed atmosphere. Featuring oceanfront and charming coastal homes with breathtaking views, this community is ideal for those looking to immerse themselves in nature and tranquility and offers easy access to boating and fishing.

Fripp is a relatively lesser-known destination with a more regional demand, tucked into a private, gated island environment. While many of its regular visitors are short-term renters, you cannot get onto the island as a day visitor just to look around. Fripp is very protective of its serene and quiet paradise, and for good reason — it’s precisely why its visitors and residents love it so much. If you do elect to stay the night, don’t miss one of the island’s most charming residents: its comically dog-like deer population. They are so friendly that they’re known for it, eating (literally) right out of your hands. They even hang out in the front yards of many homes, playing with the family dog.

Ad for amenities, Fripp offers a wealth of these designed to enhance its residents' coastal living experience. The island features three and a half miles of pristine, uncrowded beaches perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and beachcombing. Golf enthusiasts can enjoy two exceptional golf courses, Ocean Point and Ocean Creek, each offering stunning ocean views and challenging play. Tennis and pickleball courts provide opportunities for friendly competition, while the marina offers easy access to boating and fishing adventures.

For those seeking relaxation, the island boasts several swimming pools, including an adult-only pool and a kid-friendly pool with a splash pad. Dining options abound, with various restaurants and bars offering everything from casual beachside fare to elevated but casual dining experiences. Nature lovers can explore the island's diverse wildlife and scenic beauty through numerous walking and biking trails. Fripp Island's community center hosts a range of social activities and events, fostering a close-knit, welcoming atmosphere for residents and guests alike.

The South End of Tybee Island is the bustling center of activity, featuring the famous Tybee Pier and Pavilion. This area is known for its vibrant nightlife, with numerous bars, restaurants, and shops lining the streets. The pier is a popular spot for fishing, people-watching, and enjoying live music and events. The South End's lively atmosphere makes it a favorite among tourists and locals alike, offering a dynamic blend of beach fun, dining, and entertainment options.

Whether you're looking for a quiet retreat or a place to socialize and enjoy the coastal lifestyle, Tybee Island has something for everyone.

Harbor Island, South Carolina

Daufuskie Island, South Carolina

Accessible only by boat or ferry, Daufuskie Island offers a unique, secluded coastal living experience — stepping off of the ferry is like stepping into another world entirely, characterized by casual, historic charm and largely untouched natural beauty.

Daufuskie offers several stunning beaches that provide serene and uncrowded coastal experiences. Visitors and residents can enjoy the pristine sands and clear waters at beaches like Bloody Point Beach, known for its tranquil setting and natural beauty. Melrose Beach is another popular spot, offering expansive stretches of sand perfect for long walks and sunbathing.

Melrose on the Beach features oceanfront homes and cottages with breathtaking views and access to golf courses and club amenities. Bloody Point is known for its private beachfront properties and golf courses, offering an exclusive, tranquil living environment. Haig Point is a private, member-owned club community boasting beautiful oceanfront and marshfront homes, a championship golf course, and equestrian facilities. Oak Ridge offers a picturesque setting with charming coastal homes, extremely low density, and easy access to Daufuskie's natural beauty.

Despite its secluded nature, Daufuskie Island offers a small but mighty range of dining options that showcase the local flavors and hospitality. The Old Daufuskie Crab Company is an iconic favorite, serving fresh seafood in a casual waterfront setting. The Island Shack, Frye’s, and a cool floating burger joint (Fridays only) also offer island fare, while the General Store is a reliable go-to for quick-grab items. The island is also home to the Daufuskie Island Distillery, where visitors can tour and sample locally produced spirits, and more recently, enjoy a bite on the adjoining deck.

Daufuskie Island’s remote location and limited access have helped preserve its natural beauty and tranquil atmosphere, making it a perfect retreat for those seeking a peaceful coastal lifestyle.
